2) Would you yourself, as a modern young Singaporean, see the relevance of such cultural rituals in your society as necessary still, or are a hindranc

I myself, as a modern Singaporean who basically believes in these traditions and am one of those who practice these rituals. Evidence from Tanjong Rhu, (pg. 31)””They’re special glasses, big ones to help you see things faraway.” See-far glasses? What do I want to look at faraway things for...” tells me that Mr. Li’s mother is still attached to the past yet her son Mr. Li has already moved on ahead with life in this fast changing world. This means that Mr. Li is a modern Singaporean but his mother is still stuck with the past. ‘Those who forget history is doomed to failure.’ Is true as the Chinese must not forget what their ancestors did to help them as they are their ancestor’s next generation. Look forward to the future, but don’t forget the past.
