Traditional Chinese eating paper dissolved in drink or burning paper money and houses, lighting joss sticks and praying to dead ancestors aren’t just for irony but for more profound purposes. “He wanted a beautiful house all his life; I shall give him a beautiful house now!”(pg. 8) Quoted from the story’ Paper’, this shows that Chinese traditions are taken seriously and Chinese respect their dead ancestors by burning them paper goods that they need in the afterlife as it was thought that once paper items are burned, the real item will appear in the world of the afterlife.
